For centuries, the use of a sideways infinity 8 has been used in logos and religious symbols. In 1655, the infinity symbol was imbued with its mathematical meaning for the very first time. John Wallis, in his De sectionibus conicis (Treatise on the Conic Sections), used it to mean mathematical infinity. The easiest way I’ve found, assuming you are on Windows, is to go to Start, then type “Character”. Choose the “Character Map” program. (On older windows, it’s in the accessories program folder, under System Tools). You’ll get this screen. What does infinity symbol mean?
Infinity symbol created by John Wallis in 1655 refers to things without any limit, ad infinitum, perpetual. Usually is used in mathematics or physics to express that some things have no limit. For example, set of natural numbers has no limit and could be expressed by infinity ∞ sign. Infinity is designated as the ∞ symbol because it was imagined as a special variation of ouroborus snake - an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon biting its own tail.

Special character names
Becausespecial character names could be confused with an action (such as+) or be difficult to see, always spell out the following specialcharacter names: Plus sign, Minus sign, Hyphen, Period, and Comma.

To show a key combination that includes punctuation requiring use of the Shift key, such as the question mark, use Shift and the name or symbol of the shifted key. Using the name of the unshifted key, such as 4 rather than $, could be confusing or even wrong. For example, the ? and / characters aren't shifted keys on every keyboard. Always spell out Plus sign, Minus sign, Hyphen, Period, and Comma.
